I must confess I don't understand why Hollywood can't get this simple thing right. They're already provided with the script, and if it sells well, they get lots of revenue. So why do they continuously cut books down into 1/10 of their original size and proceed to tick off the fans they already have? The argument could be made that budgeting has something to do with this, and here's what I have to say to that: they're already taking a risk with any movie they make. If it is a very well known, popular book with a steady fanbase, they already have an audience that will pay money to see it. If they are intending on making a sequel (Harry Potter, for example,) then why alienate the fans by butchering the first movie? Make a ten hour film- Potter fans will go see it as long as it's faithful to the characters they love.
Does anyone else feel like the movie business should stick to just that, and stay far away from literature?
